Regardless of why you are doing rose gardening,
especially if you are a novice, there are a few things that you need
to know. Rose gardening is not a simple task - these delicate flowers
require your attention and dedication. Firstly, you have to choose which roses it is that you want to plant,
but you can't just pick
any variety - you have to take into consideration factors like
growing conditions, garden size and quality of your soil, etc.
After picking the roses that you want to plant, you have
to prepare your spot. This involves picking and
preparing a good piece of soil for plantation. A good site should
receive a dose of sun in the morning and reasonable shade in the afternoon.
Drained soil is a must, poor drainage or "wet feet" will mean the
end for your roses. Although roses would do well in most
soil types, having a high organic content will be better. Ensure that the pH levels of your soil
is 6.0 - 7.0.
